CANUCKS AT BLUES
The Vancouver Canucks vs St Louis Blues: a battle to see who can meaninglessly finish the season slightly above .500. Neither of these teams are expected to be around during playoff time, but both are seeing what can be made of their last 10 or so games. Both have poor goalkeeping in Demko and Binnington playing tonight, and both teams allow over 3.6 goals against per game; however we’re not looking at the total today because of each team's inconsistency and lack of a high-powered attack.
The Blues are a streaky team which means they can get into some slumps. They’ve picked up some nice wins recently, but there’s certainly been some good fortune on their side as they’ve been out-shot in 6 of their last 7 wins, dating back to the start of March. They will have the home ice advantage, although there practically is none as their away record shows that they actually play better outside of St Louis.
The Canucks have been very hot in March, holding a 10-3 record through the month. In this same period, they’ve outscored opponents 46-27 and have only allowed the opposition to score 3 or more goals 3 times. They operate similarly to the Blues in that being away from home doesn’t affect them as they have a positive win/loss ratio in these games. I can’t see a lackluster St Louis crowd impacting Vancouver’s play. I’m taking the Nucks to win this one.
